Mangaone Walkway
Today was Good Friday, and to celebrate that both of us had the day off from work/placements, we went on a nice tramp out around Otaki. (About an hour from our house.)
The Mangaone Walkway is a beautiful track that starts off with an easy incline across a well maintained road/path that eventually leads into the Kaitawa scenic reserve. The weather was perfect today and we thoroughly enjoyed the track. Surprisingly the kiwi statement that this is an "easy" track was actually accurate this time.
The track itself, according to the signs that DOC had posted, is 12K round trip and should take around 6 hours...The reality for us was that it took about 3 1/4 hours round trip and we think the tracks.org distance is more accurate putting the tramp at 16K (It definitely seemed that going at such a fast pace we should have been covering more distance than 6K one way...) Unsure of the exact distance, but that was just our experience and the various websites differ on this.
Travis is always happy after we stop for our lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!

This was a lovely spot to sit and just enjoy a "peaceful moment".

We did see a few mountain bikers having a rest along the way, but other than that we had the whole forest to ourselves. It was really peaceful and quiet and just a really enjoyable afternoon.
Along the way we came across these cool mushrooms.

Overall, this was a fantastic tramp and a great way to enjoy a day off. We hit a nice little cafe in Otaki on our way home.
